He and his wife felt it would be unsafe to raise their child there and decided to move to Japan. He finds Japan more affordable, safe, and is happy to be living near his wife's family — but he's scared of bullying. I want him to learn to speak Japanese fluently and feel safe enough to enjoy his childhood to its fullest. As a professor myself and after a 20-year long career in education, I have read studies that note the lack of critical thinking taught in Japanese high schools.

So last October, at the age of 80, Murray ended her retirement and got a job giving out samples at Costco. Forecasters expect that cohort of older , working Americans to double over the next decade. “More people are working at desk jobs that don’t require much physical labor,” said Gal Wettstein, a senior research economist at the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College. “That’s people who are changing jobs, younger workers and non-college educated workers.” Older workers tend not to change jobs, and they’re more likely to have a college degree. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) forbids age discrimination against people who are age 40 or older in the workplace.

Seoul, South Korea CNN —South Korea’s liberal opposition parties scored a landslide victory in a parliamentary election held on Wednesday, dealing a resounding blow to President Yoon Suk Yeol and his conservative party but likely falling just short of a super majority. A splinter liberal party considered allied with the DP was expected to take at least 10 seats, projections showed. It marked the highest ever turnout for a parliamentary election, though the numbers were down from the 2022 presidential vote that narrowly brought Yoon to power. Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party, watches election results at his district office in Incheon, South Korea, on Thursday, April 11, 2024. “Given his likely lame duck status, the temptation for Yoon will be to focus on foreign policy where he will still have statutory power,” Richey said.

One Three Is Best: How China’s Family Planning Propaganda Has ChangedFor decades, China harshly restricted the number of children couples could have, arguing that everyone would be better off with fewer mouths to feed. The government’s one-child policy was woven into the fabric of everyday life, through slogans on street banners and in popular culture and public art. Between 1980 and 2015, the year the one-child policy officially ended, the Chinese government used extensive propaganda to warn that having more babies would hinder China’s modernization. Then Now One child is best, the government aids in elder care. The pivot has prompted local officials to remove visible remnants of the one-child policy.

A number of congressional Republicans running in 2024 are swiftly distancing themselves from a controversial Alabama Supreme Court ruling seen as infringing on IVF, the latest obstacle for GOP candidates in the post-Roe era. IVF allowed me, as it has so many others, to start my family,” California Republican Rep. Michelle Steel, who represents a district carried by Biden, said on X. On the campaign trail though, the National Republican Congressional Committee is trying to help candidates navigate what is emerging as a tricky political moment. The memo tells candidates to “express support for IVF” and “oppose restrictions” on the procedure. Even some conservatives are going out of their way to express support for IVF and distance themselves from the Alabama ruling.

Relational aggression among teens isn’t anything new, but it can be especially hideous when it plays out alongside cyberbullying. Relational aggression among minors is complexCancel culture trickled down to teens, tweens and even younger children, and the combination of cyberbullying and social isolation in school can be swift. Protective factors are essentialTeens need sources of support and understanding when they’re dealing with relational aggression and cyberbullying, and this is where protective factors become important. • Research the reporting options at your teen’s school in case your teen decides to seek help on campus. What’s difficult about relational aggression is that it’s often subtle and under the radar of adults working in teen spaces.

Before I had children, I imagined family holidays would be picture-perfect Italian villas and leisurely dinners. But six years and two kids later, I've realized travel with your children can be more about damage limitation than rest and relaxation. Family holidays, as lovely as they are, come with a new set of environments and risks that you have to navigate. But as someone who loves to travel, one solution has been sticking to no-fly destinations for family holidays and taking overseas breaks without my children.
